About Terry McCarter Jr
Terry McCarter Jr.
Songwriter • Producer • Bassist • Recording Artist
For Terry McCarter Jr., music has never been simply a career—it has been a lifelong journey shaped by family, faith, creativity, and purpose.
Born into a musical family, Terry’s foundation was built alongside his father, gospel singer Terry McCarter Sr., and his brother, Jeremy “Ter’al” McCarter. Those early experiences introduced him to the stage and eventually led him to songwriting and music production, where he discovered a deep passion for creating music.
His professional journey took a major step forward when his music reached acclaimed producer and Grammy chairman Harvey Mason Jr. In 2010, Terry was invited to Los Angeles and eventually joined the creative team surrounding Harvey Mason Media and the Grammy Award-winning production team The Underdogs. During that time, he worked alongside respected writers, producers, musicians, and vocalists, further developing the songwriting and production instincts that continue to shape his music today.
Terry’s work has included collaborations with longtime musical partners and industry creatives such as Calvin McHoward, Cardell “Th3ory” McManus, Travis Bruce, Jeremy “Ter’al” McCarter, Damon Thomas, Eric Dawkins, Steve Russell Harts, and film executives Jamez T. and Kenneth Gilmore, among others.
Among his career highlights is his work on the award-winning short film 45 Days, directed by Makesha Williams. His credits also include the song “God Did It,” recorded by Sanchez Tanniehill and featured in the 2026 film God Did It (The Sanchez Tanniehill Story)
His songwriting contributions also include work for artists such as Dondria, Mary Mary, K. Michelle, Tamar Braxton, Arin Ray, Daniel Church, and many others.
As his journey evolved, Terry stepped from behind the scenes and began expressing himself more fully as a recording artist and bassist. Blending the warmth of classic soul with contemporary R&B, jazz, gospel influences, and his signature bass-driven sound, his music reflects both where he comes from and the artist he has become.
That evolution has produced a growing catalog of independent releases, including Everything That I Am, which earned Terry the 2026 Bama Male Album/Mixtape Artist of the Year honor at the Alabama Music Awards. In July 2026, he followed with From My Soul, a seven-track Album showcasing his musicianship through smooth jazz, R&B, soul, and instrumental Jazz. The journey continues with From My Soul (The Acoustic Session), an intimate, live-recorded interpretation of the music (recorded live August 22, 2026) set for release on October 2, 2026.
After years of writing, producing, collaborating, performing, and evolving, Terry McCarter Jr. continues to create from the same place where it all began—his heart and soul.
This isn’t just music. It’s a lifetime in the making.
